Thoughts from teapot production

Teapots are tools to make tea. However it is my desire to make a teapot as an art, not only as a tool.
Because teapots are used daily, it is important to make teapots of practical use.
I need to consider different conditions such as, good draining without leakage, fitted lid, the right angle of the handle, and so on.
On top of these, however, I take note of its beautiful appearance. Originally, teapots are used by both hands.
When you pour the tea, you use one hand to hold the handle, and the other to hold the lid.
Therefore, teapots in olds days often had small handle and spout. If both hands are used, teapots do not need to have a long handle.
When you treat others dearly and with respect, you often do things with both hands.
If you pour tea with both hands, your manner (shosa) too becomes beautiful.
I hope to make teapots of practical use and, at the same time, having attractive appearance.

Enjoy tea and articrafts

Today, even 100-yen shops sell teapots and other dishes.
You can drink tea from plastic bottles or by pouring hot water to a powder. On the other hand, teapots are becoming unknown to some young people. However I find it fascinating not just to drink tea, but to spend a little bit of time to make tea, and enjoy its time and taste the flavor, even more so in busy life.
Tea made using a teapot has something different. Its taste, color, and aroma… everything is more attractive.
Making tea requires little bit of time and care.
You need to cool down the hot water to the right temperature, and let the tea brew for a while.
But it is important to calm yourself down, free from pressure, and offer hospitality to others.
I feel more and more people only value convenience and treat things with no care.
But if it is craftwork, we tend to use it with care and respect.
Please use your favorite craftwork and welcome your guest (and sometimes, yourself).

How to handle a teapot

I introduce some of ways to handle teapots.
According to the kind of the tea or teapots, you can change the way to hold it.
There are for the right-handed people

Using both hands…

With your right hand hold the handle and with your left hand hold the lid.

Since you use both hands, the manner (Shosa) looks beautiful.

It is the way which can make the guests happy too.

In this way, you can use teapots with short handle.

Using a single hand…

Clip the handle between the middle finger and index finger.

Hold it gently and use the thumb to hold the lid.

The teapot becomes very stable and you can pour tea easily.

Using a single hand…

Clip the handle between the thumb and middle finger, and hold the lid with the index finger.

It may take some time to get know how to hold it stable and twist your hand.

Using a single hand…

Hold the handle with the whole hand and hold the lid with the thumb.

It is very common way but may need teapots with longer handle.
