Act 2 Scene 3
第２幕 第３場

Outside the village, near an old well.　 村のはずれ、古い泉のそば。　　
The mountain Sarakina in the Background. 背景はサラキナ山。　
The sun is shining. 陽が照っている。
Yannakos is all in a dream, he picks up ヤンナコスはすっかり夢心地で、
his bundle and hurries to the mountain. 荷物を持ち上げ、山へ急ぐ。
He doesn't see Manolios who is sitting at a well. 彼は泉のところに座っているマノリオスに木がつかない。　　
Manolios マノリオス
Yannakos! ヤンナコス！
Yannakos ヤンナコス
Oh, Manolios, be on your guard, Katerina is おう、マノリオス、ガードをかためとけよ、
casting her nets. カテリナが網はってるぞ。
Manolios マノリオス
You, too, Yannakos, be on your guard. お前もだぞ、ヤンナコス、ガードをかたくしろ。
Don't forget that from now we're one. 今から俺達は一つだってことを忘れるなよ。
If one is lost we are all lost. もしも一人になんかあったら全員がおしまいなんだから。
Yannakos ヤンナコス
Well you too, don't forget. お前もだ、忘れるなよ。
It's not an Apostle you'll be acting, it's Christ himself!　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 お前がやるのは使徒なんかじゃなくって、キリストだってこと。
They put you on the Cross. 彼らはお前を十字架に架けるんだ。
You'll know that It's all a game. Yes or no? これはゲームだと思ってるんだろ。　そうだろ、ちがうのか？　
When you cry out:“Eli, Eli, Lama Sabachthani” お前が｢エリ、エリ、ラマ、サバナクニ｣と叫んだら、
You'll say to your self that soon you'll be home, お前はすぐに家に帰れるんだ。そしたら、
there will be Lenio waiting for you and the two of そこにはレニオがお前を待っていて二人はベッドに入っちまう！
you will go to bed! Yes or no? そうだろ、ちがうのか？
Don't give me lessons! 俺に説教たれるなよ！
It won't do! It won't do! 止めてくれ!お門違いだぜ！
Why don't you say something? I'm in a hurry! なんでなんにも言わないんだよ？俺は急いでるんだ！
Manolios マノリオス
But yesterday, you still... だけど昨日、君はまだ・・・
Yannakos ヤンナコス
Yesterday things were different, don't you see? 昨日はことが違ったさ、わかんねえのかい？
It was a holiday! We had food inside us. ホリデーだったのさ！たらふく食べた。
Today trades's starting again. 今日からまた・・・・・・
Be on your guard... the widow... ガードがかためろよ･･･未亡人のやつから･･･。
(leaves in the direction of the moutain) （山の方に去っていく）
Manolios is alone at the well. マノリオスは泉のところにひとり残される。
He draw water and drinks. 彼は水を汲み飲む。
Opening his shirt, he wipes the sweat from シャツを開け、胸の汗を拭う。
his chest.His gaze comes to rest on Sarakina. 彼の視線はサラキナ山に注がれている。
In the distance, Sarakina is envelopes in a fiery, その間で
diaphanous smoke veil. サラキナ山は透明な熱気のヴェールに包まれていた。
For a long moment he remains in ecstasy. 長いこと恍惚としたままでいた。
All of a sudden, he feels his hands, his feet, 突然、手に足に心臓に突き刺すようない痛みが走る。
his heart pierced by a fearful pain,
as though he were crucified upon the light. まるで光の上で磔にされたみたいである。　
This moment has been the greatest joy of his life. この瞬間は生涯の中で最も大きな喜びとなった。
No, not joy, something deeper, いや、ただ喜びというのではない、
more cruel,surpassing all human joy and pain. もっと深く、人の喜びや痛みを越えた苦しみのようだった。
He stretches his hands... 彼は両手を差し伸べた･･･
Katerina emerges from the trees. カテリナが木々の中から現れる。
Katerina カテリナ　　　　　　　　　　　　　
Manolios. Manolios! Why do you run after me? マノリオス。マノリオス！どうして私の後を追いかけるの？
Every night I see you in my dreams, 毎晩私の夢の中に出てきて、
you won't let me sleep!Every night! 私を眠らせないのよ。毎晩！
What's there between you and me, Manolios? あなたと私の間に何があるの、マノリオス？
Are you thinking of me? 私のことを考えているの？
(Manolios keeps his eyes lowered) （マノリオスは目を伏せたまま）
I was right, you do think of me . あたりでしょ。あたなは私を思ってるのね。
Manolios マノリオス
I do think of you and I'm sorry for you, 君を思っている。ごめんねよ。
forgive me. 許してくれ。
Katerina sits down on the rim of the well. カテリナは泉のふちに腰掛ける。
Katerina カテリナ
Why are you sorry for me? どうして私に悪いの？
Manolios マノリオス
I don't know, Katerina. I don't know,don't ask. わからないよ、カテリナ。わからないんだよ、訊かないでくれ。
Katerina カテリナ
Are you ashamed for me? 私のことが恥ずかしいの？
Manolios マノリオス
I don't know don't ask me that! わからないんだよ、訊かないでくれ！
Katerina カテリナ
What do you want of me? 私に望むものはなに？
Manolios マノリオス
Nothing! I want nothing. Let me go. 何もない！なんもほしくないんだ。行かせてくれ。
Katerina カテリナ
Don't go, Manolios! 行かないで、マノリオス！
You look to me like an archangel who wants あなたは私の魂を抜いていく
to take my soul. 天使長にように見えるわ。
Don't think of me, Manolios, 私のことを考えないでちょうだい。
don't trouble my sleep anymore. 私の眠りを妨げないで、これ以上。
I've taked the bad road. Leave me alone. 私は悪い道を選んだ者よ。放っておいてちょうだい。
