Act 2 Scene 2
第２幕 第２場

For a while Father Ladas was looking しばらくの間老ラダスはじりじりしながら
impatiently to talk with Yannakos, ヤンナコスと話していた。
but he did not want to be seen by Katerina. しかし、彼はカテリナに見られたくなかった。
The following scene is played before the 次の場面はカーテンの前で演じられる。　　　　　　　　　
curtain.　Father Ladas approaches, 老ラダスは歩みよる。
Yannakos takes his bundle and the small ヤンナコスは包みと小さなラッパをとり、
trumpet and is following Ladas. 老ラダスに続く。
They sit down at the front of the stage. 彼らはステージの真中に座る。
The curtain goes slowly down. 幕がゆっくりと下がる。
The dialog is in mi-voice, a conspiracy. ひそひそ声で共謀策。

Ladas ラダス
Hi,Yannakos!　You're going to be rich! やあ、ヤンナコス！　お前も金持ちになるぞ！
I'll cover you with gold, do you hear, my friend? わしゃお前に金をくれてやるんだ、聞いてるのかい、同士よ？
Yannakos ヤンナコス
(dumbfounded) What, gold ? (唖然として）なんだって、金？
Ladas ラダス
(pointing to the mountain)　Listen! （山を指差して）いいか！
Those people must have hidden property... あの人たちは財産を隠し持ってる･･･
Jewels, bracelets,rings, gold pieces... 宝石、ブレスレット、指輪、金塊･･･
Have you got it? お前は持ってるか？
Ladas ラダス
Go there, speak to them: あそこへ行ってこう言うんだ：
“Brothers,I'll save you. ｢みなさん、私はあなた方を救いましょう。
I've give you what you need: corn, barley, 私はあなた方が必要となさるものを差し上げます。とうもろこし、
oil, wine. Bring out the jewels.” 大麦、油、ワインを。ですから宝石類をお持ちください。｣
This time it's clear, do you understand, lockhead? もうはっきりしたろう。わかったか、石頭め？
Yannakos ヤンナコス
I'm beginning... やるよ･･･
Ladas ラダス
A divine inspiration, I tell you. 神のお告げじゃよ、わしが言うのは。　　　　　　　　　　
A new life and lordly one for you, Yannakos! 新しい人生そして身に余る人生だ、お前には、ヤンナコス！
Yannakos ヤンナコス
I'm afraid of God, father Ladas, I'm afraid of God. 　 俺は神様が怖いよ、ラダスじいさんよ、神が怖いんだよ。
Is it right to fleece our prosecuted brothers? 兄弟から奪い取るなんてことが正しいことかい？
Ladas ラダス
We are not fleecing them, you hen-wit! 奪い取るんじゃないさ、you hen-wit! 　　　　　　　　　
We are saving them, they've got to eat, poor things. やつらを助けるんだ、貧相なものしか食べてないんだから。
Of course we'll look after our own interests, too! もちろんわしらの得にもなるしな。
Yannakos ヤンナコス
My head is going round. 頭がくらくらしてきた。
From thousands of ears the earrings are coming. 千の耳からイヤリングが来て、
The necklaces from thousands of necks. 千の首からネックレスが来るのか。
The gold! 金！
An immense house... balconies... soft beds! 大きな家･･･バルコニーがあって･･･柔らかいベッド！
It is Sunday and Yannakos advaces toward 日曜日にはヤンナコス様が教会に堂々と
the church with lordly steps... 足音を立てて進むんだ･･･。
I'll buy a new saddle for my donkey! おいらのロバに新しい鞍を買ってやろう！
Agreed, Father Ladas! よし、やるぞ、ラダスじいさんよ！
Half and half. ハーフ･アンド･ハーフでな。
They shaked hands. 二人は握手する。
Ladas ラダス
Agreed. よし。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
Here are three pounds in gold on account. Go, go! そら、まず３ポンドだ。行け、行くんだ！
Curtain up. カーテンが上がる。
