Act 2 Scene 1
第２幕 第１場

Commentator ナレーション
Then...the deep peace in which the こうして･･･
little village has prospered 繁栄し･･･贅肉がつきかけていた･･･
- and grown fat -suddenly is shattered. 小さな村の静かな平和は突然壊された。
Like a finger of God, demanding proof 神の指のような、信仰の証しを求め、、
of faith,the exhausted survirors of リコヴリッシ村で略奪され村をさまよう
a sacked village wander in Lycovrissi. 疲れきった難民たち。
As the days run, the lives these men 日が過ぎるにつれ、次第になくなっていったと
had known gradually disappear; 思われていたあの時の心情；
the force of　their faith-and their roles in 信仰心－そして来たる受難劇での役まわり、
the Passionato come, begin to shape their は彼らの魂を新たに形付け始めている。
souls anew into maturity.
Manolios - the dreamy shepherd - マノリオス－夢見がちな羊飼い－
endures Christ. はキリストの重圧に耐えつつ。
And Yannakos... そしてヤンナコス･･･。

Scene 1　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　第１場

A small scene. 短い場面。
On the left a dark stable with a donkey. 左側に小屋がありロバがいる。
On the right door of Katerina's house with 右側にカテリナの家。小さな庭。
a small garden. Curtain up. 幕が上がる。
Yannakos ヤンナコス
(talking to his donkey)　 （ロバに話しかける）
Here my boy, I'm bringing you a piece of news that will please you! なあ、おい、お前を喜ばせる話があるんだぜ！
It is on your back that Christ enters in Jerusalem. キリストがイェルサレムに入って行くときに乗ってくのはお前の背中なのさ。　
Next easter, my boy! 次の復活祭のときだよ！
They will make you a carpet of myrtles and お前をミルテとしゅろのカーペットにしてやてるってよ。
palms. What an honour for you! What a joy! なんて名誉なことなんだ！嬉しいだろ！
Meanwhile, my boy, we must work to earn our crust. ところでよ、お前、おれたちゃパン代をかせがなきゃなんないな。
Katerina カテリナ
Neighbor, I admire you. ご近所さん、私はあんたを尊敬してるわ。
You live alone like a cuckoo, あんたはカッコウのようにひとりで住んでるし、
and always in good temper. いつもご機嫌だし。
How do you do it? どうすればそうなれるの？
Neighbor, I had bad dreams... ご近所さん、私、悪い夢を見たの・・・。
I saw Manolios, he was cutting up the moon into small slices... マノリオスの夢よ。彼は月を薄く切っていたのよ・・・。
Yannakos ヤンナコス
That's enough, Katerina, be kind, もうたくさんだよ、カテリナ。頼むよ、
why d'you torture people.　 なんだって周りの人間を困らせるんだよ。
I saw you yesterday making eyes at Manolios. 昨日のマノリオスを見る目はなんだい。
He's engaged. 彼は婚約してるんだぞ。
Look here!It's you who'll be the Magdalen! 見ろ、だからマグダラのマリアなんかに選ばれたんだ！
Look here, you'll not keep company ざまを見ろ。これからは年寄りパナイトじゃなくって
with old Panait but with Christ. キリストと仲良くするんだな。
Katerina カテリナ
But it's the same thing, idiot. だけど同じことよ、バカね。
All men are God for a minute, a real 人はみな一瞬なら神様になるのよ。
God, not just in words. 言ってるだけじゃなくて、本当にそうなるのよ。
Afterwards,they fall back again and become Yannakos or Panait or and old dotard of Patriarcheas! Understand? でも結局、元の木阿弥に戻ってしまうのよ。ただのヤンナコスにパナイト、老いぼれパトリアルヘアスに！　わかる？
Yannakos ヤンナコス
Devil take me if understand. もしもわかるんだったら悪魔に連れていかれるよ。
Katerina カテリナ
Ugh. You're only a man you poor thing, ああ。あんたもただの男だものね。
how could you know. Well, goodbye. わかりっこないわよね。それじゃあね。
And good luck to your business,at least you understand that! 商売繁盛するようにね。それだったらわかるでしょ！
She enters in her house and closes the 家の中に入りドアを閉める。
