If foreign person would like to stay more than 3 months in Japan,
the person must apply for Alien Registration (AR).
The application form can be found at each local governmental
office such as city hall and ward office.
It needs to be submitted within 90 days for the foreigner's entry
in Japan to the government office located where the foreign
person lives.
If the foreign person is older than 16 years old, the person should
process it on his/her own. If the foreign person is younger than
16 years old, his/her family member or a relatives who lives with
the subject person may process it as a proxy.
Moreover, if there is any change of the contents that are written
in AR such as VISA renewal/change, relocating and changing of
employer, the new status needs to be reported and registered
within 14 days at the local governmental office, as well.
