　今年（２００６年）の１月、
『 2月11日に、ミスティーが私たちを置き去りにして以来、丸一年になるでしょう。』
こんな内容のメールが届いた。

　ニースなんて”高級リゾート地”のイメージしか持たず、「一生行く事はないだろうなぁ」なんて思って受け取ったメールから数年。
　バセット・パブなんて教えてもらったり・・・切手・シールが送られてきたり・・・。
クリスマス・カード交換では米国に憤慨していたなぁ～。

　ミスティーさん、いつかきっと貴女の墓標に花を捧げに行きます。

先月、ベンダーさんがお亡くなりになりました。
推定、十五歳。
きっと、キャロルさんとの楽しい思い出
（「夢のカリフォルニア・ジョ-ジア州」編）を一杯持って天国に行ったと思います。

Our dear sweet Lily passed away Monday
morning. My heart is broken as you can
imagine. She was so loved by everyone
whowas ever met by her wagging tail and
her endearing moans and groans.
She has gone to a better place. As she
laid on my knee, I told her it was time to
go.
She wagged her tail hard as if to say,
I'm ready, Mum, I'm ready. Enclosed is a
poem written by my friend Jim Willis,
taken from his book
"Pieces of My Heart" and a picture of Lily
is in the attachment.
Say a prayer for me, this is so hard.

I LOVED YOU BEST

So this is where we part, my Friend,
And you'll run on, around the bend,
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
New pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
But they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take with you this…I loved you best.
