Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide says the government has decided not to appeal a court ruling that expanded the definition of "hibakusha," or atomic bomb survivors.
- 日本の菅義偉総理大臣は、「被爆者」、つまり原爆から生き残った人々の定義を拡大した裁判所の判決について政府は上告しないと決定したと述べています。
The so-called "black rain" containing radioactive materials fell shortly after the atomic bomb exploded over Hiroshima 76 years ago.
- 放射性物質を含むいわゆる「黒い雨」は、７６年前に原爆が広島上空で爆発して間もなく降りました。
The 84 plaintiffs were outside of an area the government officially designated for state relief programs. But they say they also developed health problems because they were exposed to radiation from the rain.
- ８４名の原告は、国の救済策の対象として政府が公式に指定した区域の外にいました。しかし原告は、この雨からの放射性物質にさらされたために自分たちも健康問題を発症したと述べています。
Earlier this month, an appeal court in Hiroshima upheld a lower court's ruling that recognizes them as hibakusha. Now all the survivors will have access to free medical care.
- これに先だって今月、広島の上告裁判所が彼らを被爆者と認定する１審判決を支持しました。これで原爆の生存者全員が無料で医療を受けられることになります。
Suga said his administration will further examine the issue, so the relief measures can be extended to others who were exposed to the radioactive rain.
