The people at Japan Airlines are turning to an unlikely energy source to power their planes.
- 日本航空（の従業員）は、自社便を飛ばすために、ある意外なエネルギー源に目を向けています。
They're recycling old clothes to create biofuel, and they've just completed the first successful passenger flight.
- 日本航空の従業員はバイオ燃料をつくるために古着をリサイクルし、この度、初の成功となる旅客機の運航を終えました。
JAL says the service from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Fukuoka in western Japan relied partly on biofuel from used clothing.
- 日本航空によりますと、東京の羽田空港から西日本にある福岡までの便が、古着からつくられたバイオ燃料に一部頼ったとのことです。
The carrier teamed up with another Japanese firm to create the alternative energy source, which produces far fewer emissions than conventional jet fuel.
- この航空会社は、従来のジェット燃料よりはるかに少ない（二酸化炭素の）排出となる代替エネルギー源をつくるため、他の日本企業と連携しました。
The companies started by extracting cotton from 250,000 pieces of old clothing. They then used fermentation and other processes to generate the final product, which is the first Japanese bio-jet fuel to meet international standards.
- 日本航空と協力企業は、２５万着の古着から綿を取り出すところから始めました。それから、発酵やその他の工程を用いて最終的な燃料をつくり出しました。これは、国際基準に合致した初めての日本のバイオジェット燃料です。
Airlines are striving to cut down their hefty carbon footprints to satisfy tough new international regulations.
