Turning to the world's highest peak. China and Nepal have settled a long-running dispute about Mount Everest's exact height, agreeing that it's taller than what they thought before.
- 次は世界最高峰に関する話題です。中国とネパールは、長きにわたる議論に終止符を打ちました。これはエベレストの正確な標高に関してで、両国が以前考えていたよりも高かったという点で合意しました。
For years, the two countries differed on the height by about four meters. But on Tuesday, they announced that Everest officially stands 8,848.86 meters tall.
- 長年にわたり、この２つの国は標高について意見の相違があり、それ（その差）はおよそ４メートルでした。しかし火曜日に、両国がエベレストの標高は公式に８,８４８.８６メートルであると発表しました。
The new height comes after China and Nepal sent surveyors and climbers up their respective sides of the mountain.

The project was undertaken after some experts suggested the mountain's elevation may have changed after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal in 2015.

Climbers were delighted by the news, saying it allows them to scale to new heights.

Nepal reopened Mount Everest to climbers after shutting it down earlier this year due to the coronavirus. But people have been slow to return due to travel restrictions.
