In Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko has been sworn in as president despite a wave of massive anti-government protests that's been sweeping the country.
ベラルーシでは、大規模な反政府抗議行動が国を席けんしているにもかかわらず、アレクサンドル・ルカシェンコ氏が大統領に就任しました。
Lukashenko was inaugurated for a sixth term on Wednesday in a ceremony that wasn't publicized ahead of time.
ルカシェンコ大統領は水曜日、事前に告示されていなかった式典をもって６期目の就任を果たしました。
Lukashenko claims he won an election in August. But opposition groups say the vote was rigged, sparking huge demonstrations.
ルカシェンコ大統領は、８月に選挙に勝利したと主張しています。しかし反政権派の組織は、投票は不正操作されたと述べており、大規模な抗議行動が起きていました。
His main rival in the August election, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, has fled the country.
８月の選挙におけるルカシェンコ大統領の対立候補スベトラーナ・チハノフスカヤ氏は、国外へ逃れました。
In an online video message, she called herself the true elected leader of Belarus.
インターネット上のメッセージ動画で、チハノフスカヤ氏は、自らをベラルーシにおいて真に選ばれた指導者であると述べました。

"The people did not give Lukashenko a new mandate, and the so-called inauguration was a farce."

Thousands took to the streets of the capital to protest the inauguration.
多数の人々が就任式に抗議するため、首都の街頭で抗議行動を行いました。
While Russia has expressed support for Lukashenko, the European Union maintains it does not recognize him as the legitimate president of Belarus, calling the election fraudulent.
