U.S. President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of longtime ally Roger Stone, who was convicted of lying to Congress and other charges.
- アメリカのドナルド・トランプ大統領が、長年の盟友であるロジャー・ストーン氏の刑を減免しました。ストーン氏は、議会にうそをついたことなどで有罪判決を受けていました。
Trump on Friday spared Stone from prison.

The self-described "dirty trickster" was due to be jailed next Tuesday for lying to lawmakers in relation to alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Stone served as political adviser to the Trump campaign and was sentenced in February to three years and four months in prison.

The White House said in a statement that Stone is a "victim of the Russia Hoax that the Left and its allies in the media perpetuated for years in an attempt to undermine the Trump presidency."

Democrats have condemned Trump's action, saying he abused his power.

One lawmaker said, "With this commutation, Trump makes clear there are two systems of justice in America: one for his criminal friends, and one for everyone else."
