ヒカリバコ フィルターを通して見る世界 ‘Hikari-bako The World through the Filter’

福岡県立美術館のコレクション展「夏休み特集:没後45年 坂本繁二郎と静物画」に関連するワークショップとして「ヒカリバコ フィルターを通して見る世界」を企画・監修しました。
坂本繁二郎と私の作品に共通するものとして「光」を取り上げ、現在のカメラの原点でもある「カメラ・オブスキュラ」を題材にしました。
平成２５年度博物館実習生が運営にあたり、実習生と学芸員と共に企画を練り上げました。参加者は一人一つずつヒカリバコを作って装飾し、完成した自分だけのヒカリバコを通して外の世界を「見る」という鑑賞活動を行いました。
As a workshop in relation to the 2013 Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art Collection ‘Summer Feature: Sakamoto Hanjiro 45th Memorial’; The artist planned and supervised the project ‘Hikari-bako The World through the Filter’.
As the common theme shared by the artist and Sakamoto Hanjiro is the adoption of ‘Light’, being the origin of the modern day camera, ‘camera obscura’ was decided as the workshop subject. The museum’s practical students operated the workshop and worked together with the curators to develop the plan. This art appreciation event was one in which each individual participant made and exhibited their own camera obscura, and using this they ‘watched’ the outside world.

ワークショップに向けてのメッセージ
カメラ・オブスキュラとは、15世紀あたりから素描をするための光学装置として多くの画家たちが用いてきたもので、現在のカメラの原型とされています。カメラ・オブスキュラを用いていたとされる代表的な画家が、「真珠の耳飾りの少女」で有名なヨハネス・フェルメール（1632－1675）です。フェルメールは光の画家とも言われています。
カメラ・オブスキュラとは、15世紀あたりから素描をするための光学装置として多くの画家たちが用いてきたもので、現在のカメラの原型とされています。カメラ・オブスキュラを用いていたとされる代表的な画家が、「真珠の耳飾りの少女」で有名なヨハネス・フェルメール（1632－1675）です。フェルメールは光の画家とも言われています。
光はこれまで多くの画家たちがテーマとしてきた題材です。今回ワークショップを開催するにあたり、本展のメインである坂本繁二郎（1882－1969）と私の作品の共通点は、作品に内在する光でした。坂本の幾重にも重ねられた柔らかな色の層からもたらされる不思議な光と私のアウトフォーカスでどこか輪郭を失った光と影の像は、そこに描かれたモノの存在を超えた永遠の時間を感じさせます。美術家に求められるのは、私たちが生きるこの世界を美術家自身の心のフィルターを通し、いかに作品として提示できるかだと思います。坂本の素朴でありながら深い精神性を感じさせるその画面には、坂本自身の愚直なまでに淡々と現実を見つめ続けた姿勢が表れているのではないでしょうか。
今回ワークショップで作成するヒカリバコ＝カメラ・オブスキュラは光学装置として光の像を私たちに見せてくれるだけでなく、画家たちのフィルターを通した世界を追体験させる装置をも兼ねています。
薄いトレーシングペーパーの皮膜に映る光景は、輪郭もはっきりしない淡くて儚いものです。写真のように形を残すこともできません。しかし、儚いからこそどこか蠱惑的なのです。カメラ・オブスキュラの小さな窓越しに見る世界は、体験者に普段私たちが現実に見ているものを見た時と違った感動や気づきを与えてくれるでしょう。本体験が体験者の方々がこれから世界と向き合うための新たな視点を与えるきっかけに少しでもなればと願っています。

A painter who is synonymous with the camera obscura is the famous Johannes Vermeer(1632-165) of the ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’.
Vermeer is said to be the master of light. Until now, light has been the theme for many painters.
As we open this workshop, we find the shared theme of the main collection by Sakamoto Hanjiro (1882-1969) and the artist’s workis the inner light. From the strange light found in the layers and layers of the soft-colored superimpositions of Sakamoto’s work and that of my out of focus images where silhouettes of ‘Light and Shade’ are lost somewhere, we create the feeling of the eternal time transcending the existence of what was drawn.
What is demanded of the artist is that this living world passes through the filter of the heart of the artist and how the work represents that world. The simplicity of Sakamoto’s picture is what at the same time makes us feel the deep psychology, it shows the attitude that ties his candor to reality. This time at our workshop, the camera obscura that we have made, are not only optical apparatus that show us light images but also the tools of reliving the world through the filter of the artist.
The scene reflected on thin tracing paper is a fleeting, shapeless and intangible thing.
Because it is fleeting it is at once frightening and mesmerizing.
The small world seen through the camera obscura will give the participants a different feeling from that when seen in reality. It is hoped that the experience will allow the participants to face the world from a new viewpoint.
