Japanese researchers say they've successfully produced hair shafts in the laboratory. They say it could lead to a cure for hair loss in people.

The group, which includes Professor Fukuda Junji of Yokohama National University, published its findings in the U.S. journal "Science Advances."

They extracted two types of cells from the skin of a mouse embryo, then used proteins to link them.
