子どもの健やかな成長願う"泣き相撲"

Many parents struggle to keep their babies from crying.
- 多くの親は苦労するものです、赤ちゃんたちが泣かないようにするために。
But at one sumo event in central Japan, those who cried louder won.
- しかし日本の中央部でのある相撲の行事では、より大きな声で泣いた赤ちゃんが勝ちました。
About 170 babies aged between six months and two years faced off in the so-called Nakizumo contest at a shrine in the city of Fukui.
- およそ170人の赤ちゃん、生後6か月から2歳までが、対戦しました、いわゆる｢泣き相撲｣大会で、福井市にある神社での。
Two sumo wrestlers hold one child each in their arms for the event.
- 2人の力士が抱えます、子ども1人ずつを腕に、その行事のために。
Some babies started to cry right away, while others took a bit longer.
- すぐに泣き始めた赤ちゃんもいれば、一方でもう少し時間がかかった赤ちゃんもいました。
There is a saying in Japan that crying babies grow up to be healthy.
- あることわざが日本にはあります、泣く子は育つ、健やかにという。
The event was held for the first time after more than two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Preventative measures were taken to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.(Baby's mother)

"My son cries loud at home, so he managed to show what he always practices. I hope he grows up healthy."
