A symposium on cultured meat in the United States has called on cooperation in the industry to establish technology that enables mass production.

Cultured meat is made from animal cells that undergo tissue cultivation. It's considered environmentally friendly as it creates less greenhouse gases than traditional meat production.

About 150 people, including cultured meat startups and experts, took part in the two-day symposium that started on Friday in San Francisco.

Participants said technology to produce cultured meat has advanced greatly in recent years. But they added that the time and effort required is a hurdle to mass production.
