A Maritime Self-Defense Force submarine has collided with a commercial ship off southwestern Japan, leaving three of the sub's crew with minor injuries.
- 海上自衛隊の潜水艦が日本の南西部の沖合で商船と衝突し、潜水艦の乗組員３人が軽傷を負いました。
The incident happened at around 11 a.m. on Monday near Cape Ashizuri in Kochi Prefecture. MSDF officials say the submarine Soryu was taking part in a training exercise in the area.
- この事故は、月曜日の午前１１時ごろに高知県の足摺岬の近くで起きました。海上自衛隊当局によれば、潜水艦「そうりゅう」は、この地域で訓練演習に参加していたとのことです。
They say its mast is believed to have struck the other ship as it was surfacing.
- 海上自衛隊当局は、潜水艦が浮上した際にアンテナマストがもう一方の船にぶつかったと考えられると述べています。
Coast Guard officials report the sub came into contact with a 50,000-ton cargo ship registered in Hong Kong. They also say the ship was carrying more than 90,000 tons of iron ore.
- 海上保安庁当局は、この潜水艦が香港船籍の５万トンの貨物船と接触したと報告しています。当局はまた、この船が９万トン余りの鉄鉱石を運んでいたとも述べています。
They add none of the 21 Chinese crew members were injured. The officials are investigating the incident.
