North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is doubling down on his country's resolve to advance its nuclear and missile program, as the ruling Workers' Party congress came to a close on Tuesday.
- 北朝鮮の指導者キム・ジョンウン氏は、火曜日に与党・朝鮮労働党の党大会が閉会となる際、同国の核・ミサイル計画を推し進めるという決意をこれまでにも増して強調しています。
North Korea's state-run television reported on Kim's closing remarks at the congress, which began January 5.
- 北朝鮮の国営テレビは、１月５日に始まった党大会におけるキム氏の締めくくりの演説について報道しました。
Kim said the country must do everything it can to increase nuclear war deterrence and build maximum military capability.
- キム氏は、核戦争抑止力を強化し最強の軍事力を構築するため、北朝鮮はできることの全てをしなければならないと述べました。
Plans to hold the Supreme People's Assembly on Sunday were also announced. The parliamentary session is likely to decide on legal revisions and personnel matters based on what was put forth at the party congress.

Meanwhile, at the congress, Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, was not chosen as an alternate member of the party's political bureau.

Her title in the statement is "vice director," an apparent demotion from her former position as first vice director, but experts believe her influence in the party remains.
