RUSSIA-LED MILITARY ALLIANCE BEGINS JOINT DRILLS

A military alliance involving Russia, Armenia, Belarus, and three other former Soviet republics, has kicked off joint military exercises.
- ロシア、アルメニア、ベラルーシと、旧ソビエト連邦のほかの３つの共和国が関わる軍事同盟が、合同軍事演習を開始しました。
The maneuvers come as Azerbaijan and Armenia continue to fight over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region despite a ceasefire agreement.

About 900 personnel are taking part in the drills of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Belarus.

Russia, which leads the alliance, is obliged to protect Armenia at the request of the country if it is attacked.

The joint exercises are seen as a show of force to Azerbaijan, which is not a member.
