This
method of classifying the sex of a chicken can be performed as soon as the
chick is born. 
For a very long time I went through life with an incorrect idea of what
it meant to classify the sex of a chick. Particularly with chickens from
the Thai family tree, many of the cocks have small combs and a good deal
of the black colored cocks are especially difficult to determine until
about the age of one month.

Even when raising chicks naturally or by hand, the lower the number of chicks, the better the thermal efficiency is and the less errors made with feed; thereby reducing numbers of chicks causing growth problems. Just by culling the hens, one can rear double the number of cocks.
When
the Shamo reaches one-year of age results soon become evident, but of
course results can also be seen when raising just one or two
chickens. It’s not always
that results live up to one’s expectations during that first year however,
particularly if the best environment for the chicks is not provided after
the selection process. Surely
this is one of the most important elements in raising as many strong and
healthy cocks as possible, thereby maintaining a strong ancestry for the
very best Shamo.
This method of determining the sex of the chick from the anal vent muscles is neither magic nor fraud! Just look around the internet! You should find at least a small amount of documentation regarding this procedure. The only thing is that there isn’t a great deal of detailed information out there, and that is probably because only a small minority of farms require this procedure. Most ordinary farms just don’t have a need.
