　「勝手だよ」なぜか、くすくすと笑いがこみ上げてくる。「いきなり、人をこんな所に島流しにしておいてさ。それを、今度は、すぐ、帰って、来い、なんて」千早は、一語一語をしゃくり上げるようにして言った。目頭がじんと熱くなり、視界がぼやけてきた。…

　「うん。ありがと」　
　綾はまたばたばたと二階に戻っていく。
　しかし背を向けた綾の顔に、言葉とは裏腹な翳があったことに、千早は気が付かなかった。

"You always have it your way, Dad."
"I know. I'm sorry, Chihaya."
"Oh, you definitely do. You send me off to this Island, and now you call me up out of the blue and want me - want me to come home."
Tears started forming in her eyes. Her sight became blurry. Oh, she was so happy. After a few moments, she noticed she was sobbing.
"Chihaya, are you okay?" Dad sounded worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine."

Everything was working out nicely - so nicely that Chihaya did not see Aya was there too, secretly eavesdropping and very shocked. It had suddenly dawned on Aya that she was about to lose her big-sister-and-best-friend for good.

It is great news. Mom and Dad rebuilt their marriage and are now asking Chihaya to come home. Dad says he realized how desolate life would be without Mom and his beloved daughter and, with Chihaya gone for the past three weeks, he really misses her. His voice, although warm, is almost pleading. Chihaya is surprised. Dad has never been like that.
