A virtuoso Japanese player of the shamisen stringed instrument has returned to Carnegie Hall in New York after an acclaimed performance there in 2019. That was before the coronavirus pandemic began to unfold.

The 300 or so people in the audience had to show proof of vaccination to enter the venue on Sunday.

Fumiyoshi used the Tsugaru version of the three-stringed instrument to play traditional and more improvisational pieces.
