The world's number one tennis player has been refused entry into Australia over the uncertainty about his COVID-19 vaccine status.

Novak Djokovic had earlier written on social media that he had received a vaccination exemption.

The Serbian tennis player landed in Melbourne on Wednesday to take part in the Australian Open, which starts on January 17.

But in a statement, the Australian Border Force says his visa was subsequently cancelled as he failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the country's entry requirements.
