A Japanese tourist in Peru received a rare treat last weekend, when he was the sole visitor allowed to tour the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
- ペルーにいる日本人観光客が先週末、珍しいはからいを受けました。古代インカ帝国の要塞マチュピチュの観光を許された唯一の訪問客となったのです。
The World Heritage site has been closed during the pandemic.

Katayama Jesse originally arrived at a nearby village in mid-March, intending to visit the site soon after.

His plan was put on hold, however, when the Peruvian government issued a national emergency order that halted all tourist access.

That didn't deter the 26-year-old, who waited in hope for seven months, until a local newspaper featured his story.

After a flood of messages of support, the Peruvian government relented and allowed Katayama into Machu Picchu on Saturday for the photo op of a lifetime.
