Quantum computers cannot design materials, contrary to fake news.

Quantum computer is useless

Quantum computers cannot design porous materials.

"Quantum computers transform material design" is fake news.  Classical computers are superior.

(Fig.1)  Quantum computers cannot design materials like lego blocks.

Fake quantum computer's breakthrough design of porous material

Fake news tries to make it look like today's useless quantum computer solved problems hard for a classical computer.

The 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th paragraphs of this hyped news (9/9/2025) say

"Quantum computers have presented a new breakthrough that can solve the challenging problems of complex material design, which were difficult to resolve using traditional classical computing."  ← fake news

"Multivariate porous materials (MTV) are materials that can be custom-designed at the molecular level, resembling a 'set of Lego blocks', allowing for the free implementation of desired structures"

"The research team.. converted each connection point and block type into qubits that the quantum computer could handle. They tasked the quantum computer with solving the problem, 'What type and ratio of blocks will lead to the most stable structure?'"

"The research team also experimented with four actual reported MTV structures, showing that the results matched both in simulations (= just classical computer, which is not articulated in this news ) and on the (useless) IBM quantum computer, indicating that it works effectively in practice (= fake news )."

Quantum computer is useless, still Not a computer

Classical computer (= quantum simulator ) is superior to today's useless error-prone quantum computers, contrary to hypes.

This research paper ( this-last ) ↓

p.9-right-conclusion-middle~ (or this-p.27-lower~p.28 ) says
"To assess our Hamiltonian model on real quantum hardware, we performed VQE calculations on a 12-qubit system (= Just 12 qubits are still Not a quantum computer nor able to calculate anything.  ← VQE is hybrid, meaning a classical computer was needed in this research ).."

"..The expectation values obtained from the quantum hardware exhibited a clear convergence trend, closely aligning with the results from classical simulations using IBM Qiskit's Aer simulator. The slightly better performance of the classical simulation is expected, as the Aer simulator assumes an ideal, noiseless quantum system, while real quantum hardware is inherently affected by noise and gate errors"

↑ So this research used only 12 error-prone qubits which gave wrong results compared to a classical computer's simulation (= noiseless ideal quantum simulation, this-p.8-Figure 7 ).

As a result, this hyped news claiming "Quantum computer could design practical material by solving problems intractable for classical computers !" is clearly fake news.
