Research Interests:
1) Mechanisms and kinetics of crystallization processes , such as nucleation, growth, surface diffusion and adsorption/desorption on crystal surfaces.
2) Physics and chemistry of surfaces/interfaces of ice and snow crystals and their roles in earth science.
3) Physical chemistry and preparation of self-assemblies of protein and organic molecules.
4) Development and application of advanced optical microscopy to in-situ observation: laser confocal microscopy combined with differential interference contrast microscopy (developed with Olympus Co.), single molecule visualization (applicable to any kind of liquid-solid interfaces), interferometry, polarization microscopy, phase contrast microscopy, laser light scattering, etc.
5) Effects of a magnetic field, high pressure, and an internal/external electric field on self-assemble processes of molecules.
6) Science and technology of the growth of high quality crystals.
