Hasezan Kannon-in is a historic temple which is known to have to do withthe legend about the origin of the place-name of Kanazawa, “Imohori (digging Japanese yam) Togoro”. The Principal image of worship at this temple is“Juichimen Kannon Bosatsu”, the wooden eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu which has a long history of 1,200 years.

It is said that Tama-hime (Princess Tama), the legal wife of Toshitsune Maeda who was the third lord in the Kaga Domain, believed in this Kannon Bosatsudeeply, and donated the shrine building here. We can see the proof of the matrimonial relation between the Maeda and Tokugawa family in the twofamily crests, Aoi-mon of the Tokugawa family, and Umebachi-mon of the Maeda family, on the miniature shrine of the Principal image.

After that the lord Toshitsune Maeda developed this temple, and it became the place for the Maeda family pray 1hr easy and safe delivery of a child andhealthy growth of a child,

This temple is also famous for the event “shiman rokusen nichi”, 46,000 days,which has longed since the feudal government period. It is held on July 9th of old calendar, many worshippers visit this temple from morning till night.

The reason is because visiting the temple for a prayer on this day is believedto give people the same virtue as 46,000 visits. On the day, the door of the miniature shrine of the Principal image is opened and the wooden JuichimenKannon is shown to the public. In addition, it is believed that the come which have been prayed give us prosperous business, good health and good luck,therefore many people come to the temple to get the corns.
