When，in disgrace with Fortune and men's eyes， I all alone beweep my outcast state， And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries， And looke vpon my selfe and curse my fate. Wishing me like to one more rich in hope， Featur'd like him，like him with friends posess'd， Desiring this man's art and that man's scope， With what I most enjoy contented least; Yet in these thoughts myself almost deprising Haply I think on thee，and then my state， Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth，sings hymns at heaven's gate: For thy sweet love rememb'red such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings. |
たとえ幸運や人々の眼差しから見放され 私がただ独り嘆くことになっても 自分の見捨てられた境遇を そして悩ますことになっても 聞く耳持たぬ天を私の無益な叫びで 自らの境遇を省み 自らの運命を呪うことになっても 自分がそうありたいと願いながら 希望に一層溢れている人のように あの人のように容姿端麗に あの人のように友に恵まれ 手に入れたいと願っても この人の技能を あの人の見識をと そんなことはほとんど満たされることはないのだ だがそんなことを考えて自らを貶めていても ふとあなたのことを思うと 私の状態は まるでヒバリが夜明けに飛び上がるようになるのだ 暗い大地から 賛歌を歌いつつ天国の門へと なぜならあなたの優しい愛情は素晴らしい富を運んでくれることを思い出させ この境遇を王様とさえ取り換えることを私は軽蔑してしまうからなのだ |
