なんだか意味が良く分からない歌詞だと思っておりましたら、これはマイアーベーアのオペラ「預言者」のアリアのフランス語詞をフォスターが英訳したもの。編曲も伴奏くらいは彼がしていたのかも知れませんが楽譜が見つからず確認できませんでした。
マイアーベーアの項に入れるべきかも知れませんが、一応一連のフォスター作品の中に入れておきます。
