1863年といえば南北戦争もたけなわの時期。こんなに陽気で暢気な酒盛りの歌が戦争に対する悲しみや苦しみを歌っている歌と並んで平気で作られているということにまず驚かされます。アメリカの大学の学生歌のような朴訥で、しかしながら力強いこの歌、本当に今でもパーティーなどで歌われていそうな雰囲気です。
