When most I wink，then do mine eyes best see For all the day they view things unrespected; But when I sleep，in dreams they look on thee， And darkly bright，are bright in dark directed. Then thou，whose shadow shadows doth make bright， How would thy shadow's form form happy show. To the clear day with thy much clearer light， When to unseeing eyes thy shade shines so! How would，I say，mine eyes be blessed made By looking on thee in the living day， When in dead night thy fair imperfect shade. Through heavy sleep on sightless eyes doth stay! All days are nights to see till I see thee， And nights bright days when dreams do show |
しっかりと閉じたとき、私の両目は一番良く見えるのだ なぜなら昼の間 目はろくでもないものしか見ていないのだから だが眠ったときには、夢の中で目はお前を見る そして暗く輝きながら、闇に向けて明るく光る そしてお前、その影が他の影たちを明るく照らすのだ お前の影はどれほど幸せな姿として立ち現われるのだろう 明るい昼間にもっと明るい光で照らし出されていたならば 見えない目にさえもお前の姿はそれほどまでに輝いているのだから！ どれほど、私は思うが、私の目は喜ぶことだろう お前を生き生きとした昼間に見るならば 死んだ夜にお前の美しくもおぼろげな姿を 深い眠りを通して見えない両目が見ているだけなのだから すべての昼間は夜に見える お前を見るまでは そして夜が明るい昼間になる 夢が会わせてくれるならば |
