2010 Olympic Games

Worlds 20010

Consistent the way to the quad

Q1. You've won Japan's first medal for men's singles.
I want to take pride in it and compliment myself for it. But I wasn't able to give my ideal performance here, so I want to use this as a start towards the next stage.

Q2.What is the meaning of having won this medal?
It wasn't the gold medal, but I'm glad that I'm able to bring back a medal to Japan. I'm honestly happy, but I'm just thinking of it as a passing point.

Q3.Will you aim for the gold medal four years later?
I don't know yet.

Q4.Your quad was underrotated.
After I fell, I was able to switch over my mood, because I practiced to perform so that it would have no effect whether or not I succeeded or failed.

Q5.What was the "guts pose" (fist pump) for?
For being able to skate well here. It wasn't perfect, but the feeling of being able to do my best is strongest.

Q6. What did you think of your second Olympics?
It had tension, and I felt that the Olympics are different from other competitions after all. I was able to enjoy every minute until today ended.

It was a triumphant comeback for the skater, who returned this season after missing the entire 2008/2009 campaign after tearing ligaments in his right knee as he achieved his second world medal after silver in 2007.
But he admitted he was still not back at his best.

"I'm still not satisfied," the 24-year-old told Friday's Japanese media. "I have already targeted a gold medal at next year's world championships in Tokyo.

"I didn't feel any pressure," added Takahashi, who won in Rome in the absence of Olympic champion Evan Lysacek and Yevgeny Plushenko.

"I knew I had a very good chance with people missing from Vancouver. It's still a big step for me regardless of who wasn't here."

"I really enjoyed that challenge(for the quad-flip). I even missed Evan and Stephane (Lambiel) not being here."

"Before I had my injury and surgery, I succeeded my quads," he said.
"I was able to do two quads in a programme. I want to be back where I was before. I think that is the major reason of the importance of the quad to me.

"The toeloop is not really consistent the way I want it to be. It is a great challenge for me to continue to work on it."
