A fishing town in Japan drew criticism when it paid for a statue of a squid with a COVID-19 relief grant. But now, town leaders say it's pulling in tourists.

The coastal town of Noto started construction on the 13-meter-long sculpture in October 2020 to promote the local delicacy of flying squid.

About 180,000 dollars in grant money was used for the sculpture.
