国内初 水素で走る電車が完成

East Japan Railway has unveiled the country's first hydrogen-powered train. The firm hopes to replace its diesel models with the new design, which emits no CO2.
- JR東日本は国内初の水素を動力とする電車を公開しました。同社はディーゼル型（の列車）を、二酸化炭素を排出しないこの新型の電車に置き換えることを望んでいます。
JR East developed the train with Toyota Motor and Hitachi. It's equipped with hydrogen tanks on the rooftop.
- JR東日本はこの電車を、トヨタ自動車と日立製作所と共同で開発しました。電車の屋根の上には水素タンクが装備されています。
When the hydrogen reacts with oxygen in the air, it produces electricity. The train has a top speed of about 100 kilometers per hour.
- この（タンクの中にある）水素が空気中の酸素と反応すると、電気を作り出します。この電車の最高速度は時速約100キロです。
Hydrogen-powered passenger cars and buses are already running in Japan, but the law doesn't allow it for trains. JR East had to apply for an exemption for its new prototype.
