Now, a medical first. Doctors in the United States say they've transplanted a genetically modified pig heart into a man.

Researchers altered 10 genes in the heart to reduce the risk that the patient's body would reject it. And the team behind the life-saving procedure says so far, so good.

Doctors say the 57-year-old man had end-stage heart disease, and no options left. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the experimental medical technique for "compassionate use."
