Turning to some "PANDA-monium" (pandemonium) in Canada, a zoo has been forced to return two giant pandas to China because of a shortage of bamboo — that is the main food source for the cuddly creatures.
- 次はカナダのちょっとした「大混乱」に関する話題です。ある動物園が、中国に２頭のジャイアントパンダを返還することを余儀なくされました。なぜなら竹が不足しているためで、竹はこのかわいいぬいぐるみのような生き物の主な食料源です。
The Calgary Zoo says the pandas safely arrived at China's Chongqing Zoo. The female panda is named Er Shun, and the male is called Da Mao.
- カルガリー動物園によると、パンダは無事に中国の重慶動物園に到着したとのことです。メスのパンダは「アルシュン」という名前が付いていて、オスは「ダーマオ」と呼ばれています。
The zoo was relying on imports of bamboo from China. But it says the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult to import fresh bamboo.
- カルガリー動物園は、中国からの竹の輸入に頼っていました。しかし動物園によると、新型コロナウイルスの世界的な大流行により、新鮮な竹を輸入するのが難しくなったとのことです。
According to the zoo, each adult giant panda consumes about 40 kilograms of bamboo daily.

The two pandas left Canada last Friday. During their marathon flight back home, they managed to chow down on about 200 kilograms of bamboo and apples. They arrived in China via Germany on Sunday.
- ２頭のパンダは、カナダを先週金曜日に離れました。長時間にわたる帰国の便において、２頭はおよそ２００キログラムの竹やリンゴを食べました。ドイツ経由で中国に到着したのは日曜日のことでした。
The pandas were sent from China to Canada in 2013, under a 10-year agreement between the two nations.
