Hiroshima Day Remembrance

 

Remembering the 80th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 1945

 

6pm- 7pm Wednesday 6th August 2025

Order of the Remembrance

 

As participants gather from 5.30pm, Tony Edwards plays the Cathedral’s Norwegian. At 6pm Rev Su McClellan welcomes everybody present to Coventry Cathedral.

 

1.       Peace Bell – rung by Alderman Joe Clifford

2.       Introduction and welcome– by Manjit Kaur

3.       “Hiroshima 6th August 19454” read by Manjit Kaur

4.  Exchange of Messages of Greeting between Coventry and Hirosread by Councillor Rachel Lanchester Lord Mayor of Coventry and Mr Ken Tabachi Second Secretary Embassy of Japan to the United Kingdom. They will read each other’s greetings. Greeting by shaking each other’s hand.

5.       Reflection by Sophie Bolt General Secretary Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

6.       “We remember” led by Manjit Kaur

7.       Sadako’s Story – read by Coventry students

8.       Making Japanese paper Cranes of Peace led by Jo Hallett

9.      Coventry Cathedral Litany of Reconciliation led by Mary Goodwin

10.    International Prayer of Peace led by Manjit Kaur

11.    Community Affirmation led by Manjit Kaur
