副題に 'Tis the Song of Little Maryとあり、小さな女の子が飲んだくれの父親を夜の酒場から連れ戻そうとしている歌です。歌の前にシチュエーションを描写した節がありなかなかに強烈。ろくでなしの親というのはいつの世になってもいなくならないものですね。
