これもへイスの作品の中では現在まで残ったもののひとつで、一番良く歌われるのはWilliam Charles Fry (1837-1882) によって讃美歌とされたもの（The Lily of the Valley 1881)でしょうか。オリジナルのわび住まいの老人のモノローグもカントリーミュージック調でなかなか聴かせてくれるメロディですので、そちらのジャンルの方で歌い継がれています。カントリーミュージックのサイトのいくつかで、世界初録音のカントリーミュージックはこの曲だ、という記述もありました。
