All suddenly the wind comes soft，
　And Spring is here again;
And the hawthorn quickens with buds of green
　And my heart with buds of pain.

My heart all Winter lay so numb，
　The earth so dead and frore，
That I never thought the Spring would come，
　Or my heart wake any more.

But Winter's broken and earth has woken
　And the small birds cry again.
And the hawthorn hedge puts forth its buds，
　And my heart puts forth its pain.

 すっかり急に風が穏やかになり
　そして再び春が来る
そしてサンザシは緑色の蕾を急ぎ芽吹かせる
　そして私の心も痛みの蕾を

私の心は冬の間じゅう凍え切っていた
　大地がすっかり死んで凍り付いていたから
私は決して考えなかった　春が来るとは
　私の心はもう覚めないのだと

だが冬は終わり　大地は目を覚ました
　そして小さな鳥たちは再び鳴いている
そしてサンザシの茂みは　その蕾を芽吹かせ
　そして私の心はその痛みを芽吹かせるのだ
