Some of Japan's top fast-food chains are testing out new ways to reach their customers.

They've seen demand for takeout meals increase during the pandemic and started looking beyond their brick-and-mortar outlets.

Beef bowl chain Yoshinoya has teamed up with drugstore operator Welcia Yakkyoku. Yoshinoya prepares the meals at its restaurants and distributes them to the drugstores.

The deal currently involves about 50 Welcia stores in or near Tokyo, but the beef bowl chain says there are plans to expand.

Burger chain Mos Food Services has also been trying to expand its footprint without major investment. Mos fans can now grab a patty from a food truck in a central Tokyo parking lot.
