The Japanese government has admitted to the existence of a file made by a Finance Ministry official who took his own life after being forced to falsify public documents.

This has drawn public attention as the file relates to a scandal over the sale of a plot of state-owned land that allegedly involved the wife of a former prime minister.

Akagi Toshio worked at the ministry office in Osaka. He was pressured to falsify information related to the land sale to a school operator at a price well below market value.
