China is facing international criticism for a sweeping overhaul of Hong Kong's electoral system designed to ensure lawmakers are loyal to Beijing.

China's National People's Congress Standing Committee approved amendments to Hong Kong's Basic Law on Tuesday.
- 中国の全国人民代表大会の常務委員会は火曜日に、香港基本法の改正を可決しました。
The changes require candidates for Hong Kong's chief executive and Legislative Council to be screened by security authorities. A vetting committee will then decide whether they can run.
- その改正により、香港の行政長官と立法会への立候補者は治安当局により審査されることが求められます。そのうえで、資格審査委員会が立候補できるかどうかを決めます。
The Hong Kong government says it will delay elections for the Legislative Council by an additional three months to December.

The election for the next chief executive will be held in March next year. This means both elections will take place under the new system.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Beijing's move was a "clear breach of the Joint Declaration" between China and Britain, which ruled Hong Kong as a colony until 1997.
