今週はインタビュー特集です。新型コロナウイルスで世界はどう変わるのか、世界のオピニオンリーダーたちに尋ねた特別番組から、歴史学者ユヴァル・ノア・ハラリ氏へのインタビューからの抜粋を３回にわたって紹介します。ハラリ氏は１９７６年イスラエル生まれ、現在はヘブライ大学の教授です。

We often hear about the "war" against the coronavirus, also described as the
"invisible enemy."
- 私たちはしばしば、コロナウイルスに対する「戦争」について耳にします。それはまた「見えざる敵」として表現されています。
But Yuval Noah Harari, the best-selling author of "Sapiens" and "Homo Deus," says
the war metaphor is not the right one for navigating the global crisis.

The Israeli historian explained why thinking differently about COVID-19 can help us
reshape the post-pandemic world.

"In a war, ultimately you have soldiers with guns killing each other. This is a
very different kind of situation. I mean, the heroes of this situation is the nurse in hospital changing
bed sheets."
- 「戦争では、結局のところ銃を持った兵士たちがお互いに殺し合うわけです。これは全く異なる状況です。つまり、今の状況の英雄は病院でベッドのシーツを替える看護師なのです」
"We need to win against the virus, but no human being should be seen as an enemy.
So I think we should leave aside this metaphor of war and battle and victory, and success, I think,
would be if we take care of all humans around the world."
- 「新型コロナウイルスに打ち勝つ必要があっても、どの人間も敵としてみなされるべきではありません。ですから、戦争や戦いや勝利などの比喩は脇に置いておくべきだと思います。そして成功とは、世界中の全ての人類の面倒をみるかどうかだと思います」
